About the Author

My name is Andrew Smith, and I am the author of the blog Chicago Blackhawks Nation blog. I was born a Blackhawks fan in the city of Chicago on March 18, 1992.

I fall into the middle between 2 brothers and a sister. Being a middle child was never easy, but I soon came to realize all I needed to do was entertain myself. Although I only have 3 siblings, I truly have 24 cousins that are all brothers and sisters to me.

Even though we are a city living family, our hearts have been on our farm in Three Oaks, Michigan for the longest time. Brookwood Farm, which is owned and operated by my grandparents and their 6 children, has been a place where everyone can gather for work and play. While it proves to be an ultimate get away from the city, it has also come to be a business, and a way of life for our families. Throughout my childhood, my parents and family were always guiding me in the right direction. My mother would always make sure that our Catholic faith, family, and school was of most importance. While my father on the other hand was making sure we understood what it meant to work hard, practice, and put in the effort in order to be successful in life.

While growing up there was nothing more important to me then sports, especially that of hockey. Every memory I have, if it wasn't an activity with my family or a perfect vacation, was of a special moment on the ice rink. I first started playing hockey when I was around 6 years old. As soon as I worked my way through pre-skate, I knew hockey had given me the passion I had always looked for. Although hockey was where I spent most of my time, throughout grade school I tried to play as many different sports as I possibly could, of which included:
• Hockey
• Football
• Basketball
• Golf
• Volleyball

As I moved onto high school, playing hockey and getting good grades were my utmost priorities. After a few successful years both in the classroom and on the ice, I was finally named captain of the hockey team during my senior year. Although I battled shoulder injuries throughout the season, I did not want my hockey career to end after high school. Therefor following my senior year I got surgery to fix all of the damage. Thinking my shoulder was back to 100%, I went on to play for the Illinois State Redbirds D3 and D2 Club Hockey Teams. After two short years, my shoulder once again began to give me trouble, and resulted in the end of my hockey career.

Hockey has been my passion for 14 years, and I have followed the Chicago Blackhawks from the day I was born. Ever since I first learned to play hockey, I had dreamed of playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. Although my dream to be the next Bobby Hull has been shattered, I continue to watch and follow every move the Blackhawks make.

This blog will prove to be your spot for everything Chicago Blackhawks.
