Hawks Move On!

Blackhawks Finish Blues

Crawford helps Hawks Surpass Blues
source: articles.chicagotribune.com
The Chicago Blackhawks have now taken 4 games in a row, and have defeated the mighty St. Louis Blues. An incredible series played by both teams, but the Blues could't stop the Hawks offense. What seemed to be a struggle for the first two games, turned into a Chicago Blackhawks momentum swing on their home ice. The Blackhawks have always played well at home, and they surely showed their home ice advantage by winning all 3 home games and only one away. Carrying the momentum through the games 3 & 4 wins, the Hawks were able to go back to St. Louis and devastate the crowd with a 3-2 overtime win. The Hawks then went on a scoring rampage in game 5 at the United Center. Scoring 5 goals, the offense was the best that the team had seen throughout the entire series. Not wanting to head back to St. Louis for a game 6, the Blackhawks played well in every aspect of the matchup. While it seemed the Hawks would be doomed early in the series, one man who deserves credit for keeping the team alive was goaltender Corey Crawford. Although letting up a few must have goals, Crawford certainly showed he has what it takes to help this team move on.

While the game proved to be close matchup through 2 periods,  Toews would then rally his team with a wrist shop, followed by goals from Patrick Sharp, Andrew Shaw, and Duncan Keith. While the Hawks offense gain a tremendous amount of confidence in the third, they will need to pick up the pace if they want to surpass their next opponent in round 2. One thing I would wish the Hawks could improve on is getting pucks to the net. With forwards like Andrew Shaw and Bryan Bickell who have a strong net presence, the Hawks could really capitalize on putting everything and anything on the net. As seen late in the game and throughout the series, the Hawks make plays when the puck gets to the opponents net. Another thing the Hawks must definitely work on is their enormous amount of penalties taken. Unlike the Chicago Blackhawks throughout the season, they have continuously been taking bad penalties that have luckily not been taken advantage of by the Blues offense.

The Blackhawks are definitely a team to keep an eye on for the Stanley Cup run, and will certainly give their next opponent a physical battle. The Hawks are the only Western Conference team to have clinched their second round spot thus far, and will await for the announcement of their opponent. Ether way, we can expect the Hawks to continue practice as normal and prepare for the next series.

Overtime Struggles Continue

Blackhawks Fall in OT Yet Again

Blues score to win another O.T.
source: www.cbssports.com

Is it possible the Chicago Blackhawks have carried there regular season overtime omen into the first round of the "Quest for the Cup", most would be likely to think so. While the first game of the series was a tremendous fight, the Blackhawks had the lead by one goal into the late minutes of the game. The only problem with a one goal lead in playoff hockey is the chances of keeping the lead are unlikely. Well with about one minute left, the Blackhawks would lose their one goal lead and head into a triple overtime loss. As the Chicago fans stayed hopeful as they always are, we believed in our team and cheered for them as every player left everything they had on the ice.

Only down one game into the series, the Blackhawks were surely gonna get vengeance in the second game on saturday afternoon. There was only one problem, in stead of coming out of the gate with fire on their backs, the Hawks looked like a bunch of mens league players chasing the puck as the Blues walked over them. After letting the Blues take a first period 2 goal lead, Coach Q must have gave an extremely motivational speech because the Hawks would then go on a three goal tear scoring one in the second and two in the third. besides playing most of the game on the penalty kill, the team looked great and Hawks fans were hopeful that the team would be able to hold on to a much needed win in St. Louis territory. Instead, Seabrook decides to annihilate Backes of the Blues, and not only get thrown out of the game with 5 minutes remaining, but also give the Blues a 5 min power play. Just what the Hawks needed right? Although the Blackhawks were playing strong, it was destined that the Blues would pull their goalie be able to burry one home, and thats exactly what happened with a few seconds remaining. Although dramatic, there was still a game to be played, as both teams would battle it out in yet another overtime game. As we all know the Blackhawks have been absolutely horrible in overtime during the regular season, and with another overtime loss to start the series, it was only fate that the Blues would win it again.

Although down 2 games, and the loss of Seabrook due to suspension, we must not worry Hawks fans because the Blues will be coming back to the madhouse. On monday night in Chicago, the Blues will have to endure the boys on the ice and their 20 some thousand die-hards behind the glass. The Blackhawks are a great team at home, and will definitely need to bring the series back to St. Louis tied up.

Preparing for Playoffs

First Round: Chicago Blackhawks V. St. Louis Blues

The Road to the CUP begins Thursday April, 17, 2014

2014 NHL PLAYOFF HYPE - "HEY BROTHER"
source:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JuqraLrFjI

The Chicago Blackhawks will head to St. Louis on thursday April, 17 to take on the Blues in the first round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. With hatred instilled on their hearts and the drive for victory beating within each player, it will certainly be one of the most competitive series in the first round. Throughout the season both teams were neck and neck, struggling to gain a substantial lead within the conference. In 5 games throughout the season, The blues took the first three games, but two of which took all of 3 periods and a shoot-out.

While the Blues were destined to clinch the conference toward the end of the season, they fell short  and were rattled with injury. Although they lead the conference for most of the season, the Blues couldn't hold on, and now have to face the fierce Chicago Blackhawks who have a tendency to destroy teams dreams. With several players returning from Injury, the Blues will have a better chance of getting the puck passed Corey Crawford, but it all surely not come easy.

On the Other hand, the Chicago Blackhawks have been struggling of late with several of their powerful forwards out with injuries. Blackhawks stars Toews and Kane are destined to return to the Blackhawks line-up for the first game of the series, and although they may have not seen action in quite some time, they will surely be ready to draw blood. With the passion and experience of the veterans, and the drive of the new young guns, the Blackhawks have aquired a perfect mix that should enable them to return to Chicago with the Stanley Cup once again. There is no excuse for the Blackhawks to expect none the less, most of their team has returned from winning the Cup last year. Along with the addition of several fast players, they are certainly ready to roll over the blues and continue on to the next round. While it will not be easy, the Blackhawks key to getting passed the Blues is getting the puck to the net. With powerful and quick forwards, their are not many teams who can stop the Chicago Blackhawks in the offensive zone. Leading the league in goals for the most part of the 2013-2014, the Hawks are a powerhouse that pose a deep threat for the Blues.

This opening round matchup will certainly start off very physical, and the speed of the game will increase almost double. While there are no true bad match ups in the playoffs, I believe the winner of this series will capture enough momentum to work there way through into the Stanley Cup Finals. Everything that both teams have faced throughout the entire season all comes to this point, the chance to prove that they have what it takes to win in the playoffs!!

Blackhawks Lose Twice In One Day

Blackhawks Lose 4-1 and Toews Injured on Hit

Toews Skates to bench holding arm after hit by Orpik!
Source: Dailynewsen.com

Sunday Night the Chicago Blackhawks faced-off against the league rival Pittsburgh Penguins, and played a tough game but could not see too get the puck passed veteran goaltender Marc Andre Fleury.  The Hawks were only able to tally one goal, while the Penguins scored 4, including a last minute empty net. While the Blackhawks were not able to get a win, they also lost their captain Jonathan Toews to a powerful hit into the boards by penguins forward Brooks Orpik. Although the hit sent Toews into the locker room for the rest of the game, there was no penalty's called on the play as it was deemed to be a clean hit. Whether or not Orpik had left his feet during the hit is unknown, but from the angles viewed the hit seems to be perfectly fine. The Hit can be viewed in the video posted below from a Youtube video by "Everything Hockey"

With Toews out for an unspecified amount of time, Kane out for the remainder of the regular season, and Bickell still out for a few games, the Chicago Blackhawks may continue to struggle to find their groove. The Blackhawks are not used to having both of their team leaders out for injury, and it can be assumed the team may not get out of its losing funk until the start of playoffs. Even though the Hawks have clinched a playoff spot, they will not be able to gain home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, and certainly will have a much tougher matchup in the first round (presumably Colorado Avalanche).

The Hawks will host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, which means they will have a few days off to regain the offensive power in which they sustained throughout most of the regular season. While the points for a victory may not play much of a role in the remaining games left, the Hawks certainly need to gain some momentum as they head into the playoffs.

17 second Rematch!

HAWKS TAKE ON BOSTON!
Andrew Shaw Scores in Stanley Cup Matchup against Boston
www.sportsillustrated.cnn.com

In just a few hours, the Blackhawks will take on the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden in Boston. This game will be the first time these two teams have met at the TD Garden Since game 6 of the Stanley Cup Series. The Blackhawks coming off of a 4 -2 win against Dallas are looking to increase there points in the league and lock-in their playoff spot. While the Boston Bruins have already received a spot in the playoffs, they are currently only a few points behind the St. Louis Blues for the top spot in the entire league. As both teams will be in the playoffs in a few weeks, this game will be just as much if not more than rematch of the last Stanley Cup Playoff. The Boston Bruins will seek to use their best defense in the league to try and hold back one of the most powerful offenses. With Patrick Kane out for the rest of the regular season, Tuevo will get a chance to play in his second Blackhawks debut, which should quickly get him accustomed to the speed and physical play of two competitive original six teams. The Hawks will certainly have to come out with speed tonight, as the Boston fans seem to be almost as passionate as those who reside in the United Center. As one of the great rivalries of the hockey game, we can definitely assume tonights matchup will be physical and fast paced.

In order for the Chicago Blackhawks to come out with a win tonight they will need to rely on Captain Toews and the first line to stir some offensive pressure. Although the first line is great at setting the pace of the game, the Hawks must also look through lines 2-4 to continue to get the puck to the net and maintain there strong physical presence, as it will be vital against a very strong team like Boston. It will not be easy to get the puck passed Boston goaltender Tuuko Raask, but it will certainly be the deal breaker if the Hawks want to increase their point standing. The Hawks will also look for a strong defensive presence from Keith and Seabrook in order to keep Boston away from the slot.

Hawks fall to Preds

Hawks fall to Nashville Predators Once Again

One of the few scuffles in a very physical game.
source: http://blackhawks.nhl.com/gamecenter
As what usually proves to be a physical matchup, the Predators entered the United Center with a chip on their shoulder as they currently stand in last place with only weeks left until playoffs. With Hawks only several points behind the league leading St. Louis Blues, who have already clinched a playoff spot along with the Boston Bruins.

Although currently struggling, it seems Nashville has our number this season, the Blackhawks just can't pull off a W. With the only goals of the game coming from Mike Fisher and Gabriel Bourque, the Preds were able to hold the Hawks powerful offense to zero goals. In a very physical game, the Predators were able to keep the Hawks away from playing their true game. One star to note was Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne, who according to the Chicago Blackhawks website had held of 29 shots throughout the game. Recording his first shutout of the season, Rinne played incredible to keep the Hawks scoreless. Although the opportunities to score and create chances were there, the Hawks just couldn't seem to light the lamp.

With only weeks remaining in the playoff hunt, the Chicago Blackhawks will need to find there rhythm as they play for a spot in the post-season. Without star scorer Patrick Kane, the Hawks will need to figure out a way to work together in order to get some point on the board. As kaner will most likely be out for the remainder of the regular season, the Hawks have added talented prospects Teuvo Teravainen, and Jeremy Morin. Both the young stars will look to get the offense back on its feet for the Hawks, as they have only several much needed victories left in the regular season.

Hawks will take on a lower placed Dallas Stars team on March 25 at the United Center, and are in need of a victory to finish the season strong. With only a few games left, the Hawks will need to gain some serious momentum as they head into the playoffs. Although the run for another first place finish is very unlikely, the Hawks still must place well in order to try and gain home rink advantage.

Top Chicago Blackhawks Blog

Chicago Blackhawks Blog Review

Toews Celebrates after goal during Stadium Series victory
source: www.thecommittedindian.com

While Chicago Blackhawks Nation is relatively new to the blogging saga, I would like to take the time to touch on one of Chicago Blackhawks blog sites that has stood out in the niche area.

As one of the top read blogs of the Hawks, one of the aspects that stands out the most is the amount of posts. Unlike many of the other blogs, Chicago Blackhawks Report has numerous posts a day covering a wide variety of Hawks news. Although people may not have time to read every single article in a given time, the writers of the blog understand that people want to know everything that is happening surrounding their team. By having numerous amounts of posts, people continually check the site, and thus drive up the blogs traffic. As ESPN is the leading sports news company in the industry, it is only likely that they have a tremendous amount of access to information. With its ease of access to the source, this blog is a very interesting read, and each article is filled with quotes from players, coaches, and the organization. This is a very distinctive aspect of the blog, and has enabled them to achieve much success in the field.

Another Important aspect to mention regarding the blog is its aesthetic appeal toward the reader. The blog is set up very well, and is certainly easy to follow. One of my favorite parts of the blog is its use of media below the headings. While some blogs may only use a few pictures, the Chicago Blackhawks Report does a very good job of also working videos into their headlines. One part of the blog that I think would be a great addition to the Chicago Blackhawks Nation site is the different links for resources such as the Chicago Blackhawks schedule, tickets, and stats. Along with different types of resources, the blog also provides the viewers of the site with several different types of media such as podcasts, recent updates, twitter account, and even an ESPN fan shop. I think the blog is very user friendly, and certainly has created a display that will drive traffic stats up.

Hawks Win Stadium Series

Toews Leads Hawks in Snow Show

Sharp celebrates after scoring first goal
source: www.committedindians.com

On Saturday night the Chicago Blackhawks scored 5 goals to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins in front of a sold out Soldier Field in Chicago. The Hawks captain Jonathan Toews scored two goals in the victory, while Sharp, Versteeg, and Bickell each tallied one.

The Hawks played tremendous the entire night, and Corey Crawford nearly had a shutout until one of his own defensemen put the puck in his own net.

The whole experience was truly amazing, and according to the Chicago Blackhawks website, 62,921 of Chicago's passionate fans stayed until the very end of the game despite frigid temperatures. Due to snowy conditions on the ice, both teams had trouble creating the perfect play. Coaches and players on both sides understood that the snow would cause problems, and made sure to play a simple game in which everything should be put on net. As shown with 5 goals, the Hawks certainly unleashed some offensive fury by putting shots on net.

For more information on the spectacular night I recommend checking out the following links:

1. Chicago Blackhawks Website

2. Chicago Tribune: Blackhawks Best Penguins 5-1 at Soldier Field

3. USA Today: Chicago Blackhawks Roll Past Penguins in Snowy Soldier Field

4. Commited Indians: Blackhawks Dominate Pens

5. Bleacher Report: Chicago Blackhawks: Marian Hossa's Injury and Other Stadium Series Observations

For Pictures of the historic game I recommend the following link:

All of the links to articles above explain in great detail the wintery night that will go down in history of both Chicago and Soldier Field. As fans would normally line the gates to what would believe to be a football matchup, in return got a stellar performance of Chicago's favorite hockey team.

Although the victory was stellar, the articles also provide information in regards to the Marian Hossa upper-body injury. According to Brian Hedger, NHL.com correspondent, "Hossa might miss some time, we'll get a better idea, probably more, on Monday, [a] pretty good idea, but we'll know more in a couple of days. But not long-term." Hossa's injury could surely be a problem headed forward for the Chicago Blackhawks, but they will not slow down as they take on the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.

Hawks Weekend Forecast

Hawks Preparing for Penguins in Chicago

Crew Preparing the Stadium Series logo at center ice of Soldier Field
Source Image: http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=706723&navid=DL|CHI|home
Tonight the Chicago Blackhawks resume their regular season schedule against the New York Rangers after a what seemed to be lengthy two week olympic break. While we got to witness an incredible Olympic show by all of the players representing their country's, it sure does feel good to have the boys back and ready to fight out the second half of the season.

Returning with several medals, the Chicago Blackhawks team is geared up and ready to get back to playing with their team. With 3 gold medal olympians Toews, Keith, and Sharp, and three silver medalists Hjalmarsson, Oduya, and Kruger, the Hawks players should be able to carry their momentum back into the NHL season. On fire and named the top forward of the Olympics, the Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews will be ready to rejoin his teammates and lead his team onto victory.

As the Hawks begin the second half of the season with a record of 35-11-14, they stand in third place behind both the Blues and the Ducks. While some of the players are still adjusting from the long trip, the Blackhawks may have a slow start but should be able to find their groove against the Rangers. Although the Rangers have been struggling as of late while they stand in the middle of the pack, they should be fired up and ready to take on the Chicago Blackhawks. Following the game against the Rangers, the Hawks will head home to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday in the Stadium Series matchup at Soldier Field. An epic matchup and rivalry, the game on Saturday will definitely be a must watch. Although a cold forecast is predicted, fans throughout Chicago will be able to watch as the two teams battle for victory in the old time outdoor game. As the crews work to prepare the ice, both teams will be excited to take part in this extraordinary event in front of a sold out Bears stadium.

According to the ESPN Chicago Blackhawks Report by Mike Mazzeo on February 27,

"Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said he believes the key for his team -- which features 10 Olympians -- will be to put a lot of shots on net. Rangers backup goaltender Cam Talbot, who gets the start Thursday in place of Team Sweden's Henrik Lundqvist, hasn't played in a game since Feb. 6."

Also, the Chicago Blackhawks acquired Peter Regin #2, a center, who will play on the second line with Patrick Kane. In what is to be an experiment by head coach Joel Quenneville, if Regin and Kane work well together, he may find himself a key on the roster.

Blackhawks "17 Seconds"

17 Seconds: Two Goals and a Stanley Cup Championship

"17 Seconds" Intro by BHTV
source:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDgJ4_MdJjU

"17 Seconds," is a documentary created by the Chicago Blackhawks that depicts the 2013 Stanley Cup championship game versus the Boston Bruins. While I could go on for days about how the film was perfected and inspirational, the only way I will be able to do the video justice is by telling you to simply WATCH IT!!!

So remarkably done, the documentary walks the viewer through all of the emotions and joy that come from not only winning a championship game, but winning it in style. As depicted in the film, the Chicago Blackhawks would score 2 goals in 17 seconds to clinch the Stanley Cup Championship. While this extraordinary event may not seem so extravagant to some, for others it was a miracle. The Chicago Blackhawks filming crew does a marvelous job to say the least, and captures some of the most remarkable footage of a team who fought till the last second.

From the players hoisting the Stanley Cup, to the post game locker room festivities, and even to the parade, the film is in short just remarkable. While most of us are not NHL payers who won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks, the film takes us into the back seat of the lives of our players.

One of my favorite parts of the film is the depiction of the Stanley Cup parade through the city of Chicago. Even though most of us were there to witness the millions of people who came out in dedication and celebration for our home team, not many of us were able to see what it was like from one of the busses. The footage from the perspective of the players as they make their way through the seas of red fans is just utterly jaw dropping. With crystal clear blue-ray picture, the video makes you feel as though you are apart of the same excitement that the players got to live.

Although you may think the video is just one party after another, the film slows down and depicts the life-style of the players at their homes with the Cup. With a sneak peak into their private lives, the viewers are granted access into the lives of the players without the non-stop party of winning a championship seems to portray.

Nonetheless, I recommend all of the Chicago Blackhawk fans out there to go out and buy the film, or at least watch it. For those like me, it will be footage that I can one day show later on day the road as evidence of the greatest 17 seconds in Chicago Blackhawks history.

USA v. Canada

The Biggest Rivalry in all of Hockey!

Four years ago in Vancouver Canada defeated U.S.A to take gold
source: www.neontommy.com

On Friday morning at 12 noon, United States and Canada will face-off in one of the biggest rivalries in all of hockey. While all sports fans from both USA and Canada will be watching, we can be sure that this game will be seen throughout the world. While this game will prove to be a long-lasting rivalry, it will also mark a rematch from 4 years ago in the Vancouver winter games when Canada defeated the United States in overtime and stole the gold. Although the game scheduled for Friday is not for a medal, the winner will go on to play for gold, while the loser will move to the loser bracket and play for bronze. If the pressure of everyone in the world watching on isn't enough for these players already, we must also recognize the fact that there are players from both countries who are teammates. While it is of utmost importance to win for the country, the winning team will also hold bragging rights. For the Chicago Blackhawks, one matchup stands out right away. All-star Patrick Kane will play against Captain Jonathan Toews. Even though best friends off the ice, both players will put friendship on the side as they battle for a victory. Along with Toews and Kane, players Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp will also be on the ice in search of victory for Canada.

So far in the tournament, U.S.A has dominated their opponents and have tallied 19 goals over four games. The only team to give the United States a problem thus far in the tournament has been Russia, who has since been knocked out of the quarter-finals by Finland. With an explosive offense and great goaltending, USA will hope to use their speed and puck control in order to take down the Canadian powerhouse.

On the other side, Canada has also done really well in the tournament, but do not seem to be as explosive as predicted. With a close 2-1 win over latvia in the quarterfinal game, and an overtime win over Finland, Canada is still in search of their dominance with the puck.

No matter what has happened thus far in the tournament, both teams will certainly leave everything they have on the ice Friday. Nothing else will matter but the fact that the game is United States v. Canada, and that the two close countries will be watching full spirited for their country to move onto the gold round. You can be sure that this game will be more than professional hockey players figure skating around each other.

USA defeats Russia!!

USA Counts on Oshie in Sochi!

T.J. Oshie scores shootout goal to lead U.S. to victory
source: nytimes.com

This morning the United States took on Olympic powerhouse and host, Russia. A very competitive matchup, both teams came out hitting and skating hard. As a hockey fan, or just someone watching on, one would think the game was being played in the medal round.  With the United States coming off a 7 goal scoring frenzy against Slovakia on Feb. 13, they were able to gain some much needed momentum in order to take down the favored Russians. Playing in their home country would seem to be advantageous, but the U.S prevailed throughout the entire game. Headed into the third period in a 1-1 tie, the Russian team came out flying, but the U.S. put up a power play goal from Patrick Kane to Joe Pavelski to take a 2-1 lead early in third. Shortly after, the Russians Pavel Datsyuk scored a power play goal to bring his team back to even. Late into the third with only 4 minuted remaining, Russia took a shot form the point that went passed Jonathan Quick, but would be called off due to the net being dislodged before the shot. One might call it a miracle, but the U.S. held steady and finished off the third to take Russia into overtime. Both teams respectively playing amazing hockey, viewers from the United States were surely wide awake catching the action. As overtime would prove to be not enough, the game went into a shootout where both teams would have chances to win the game but were stopped on numerous attempts. With amazing stats on the shootout in the National Hockey League, T.J. Oshie was called upon numerous times to keep the United States in the game. With a Jonathan Quick save on Malkin, T.J. Oshie circled at center ice to begin his 5th shootout attempt. The rest was history as Oshie scored on the eighth round of the shootout and brought another one for the United States. Although Oshie has certainly taken over the world news and social media, the entire United States team played a strong game and deserve credit for the victory. With the 1980's "Miracle on ice" olympic game in mind, the United States men hockey team certainly pulled off another remarkable victory over Russia.

While it was only a preliminary game, the U.S. have certainly proved this morning that they have the determination and commitment to go for gold, and certainly will not go down without a fight. Only one game remains on sunday morning against Slovenia before the playoff rounds begin. In what should be a somewhat easy opponent, if the U.S. get another win they win surely lock in the top spot and earn themselves a buy heading into the next rounds.

Bring on the Ducks

HAWKS v. DUCKS: showdown in Anaheim

source: blackhawkup.com
Tonight the Blackhawks will take on the first place rival Anaheim Ducks. With only two games left before the two week olympic break, the Hawks need to hit the ice with a chip on their shoulder. After defeating the Ducks at home in the last matchup, the Hawks will be looking to gain two more points on the league leaders. While the Ducks have been struggling for victory in the past 9 games, the Hawks will be heading into Anaheim with momentum from the 5-3 win over the Kings. The Ducks currently have 3 points on the Hawks in the league standings, but overcoming some mid-season losses, the boys in red are ready to re-claim their number one spot. Puck drop is set to be at 9 P.M. and will certainly be an entertaining match-up. With Patrick Kane coming off a big game against the Kings, he is one to keep on eye on, along with goaltender Corey Crawford who has been struggling to find victory in the paint. On the other side, the Ducks will hope captain Ryan Getzlaf and stellar goaltender Jonas Hiller are ready to bring down a motivated team.

Tune Back in later for post game review, stats, and opinions. Along with a preview of the final game before the Olympians take off to Sochi.

Rally behind Kaner

KANE HONORS LATE GRANDPA"DONALD KANE"

Patrick Kane honoring his late Grandpa after a goal!
source: http://brobible.com/sports/article/patrick-kane-honored-dead-grandfather-really-cool-way-breaks-game/

The Chicago Blackhawks came off of a hard fought Overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks and headed into Los Angeles to face-off against the Kings last night. In need of some key victories before the Olympic break, and battling some past overtime losses, the Hawks had to hit the ice flying.
Just prior to the game, Patrick Kane received heart-breaking news that his grandfather, Donald Kane, had passed away. Bearing the awful news, Patrick Kane still suited up for the game and even had one stellar performance. Scoring 2 goals with 1 assist, Patrick truly showed the remarkable dedication he has for the game of hockey, his team, and most importantly his family. Everyone who has lost someone special in their life understands the pain Patrick and the Kane family must have been endearing, but to still put on your equipment and play a remarkable game is just incredible. Patrick Kane is an amazing young man with a big heart and an extraordinary amount of love for the game of hockey. I can only imagine how proud Donald Kane must have been of Patrick. After scoring one of his goals, Kaner symbolically pointed up in the air for his grandpa. Despite losing his best friend and grandpa, Patrick was able to rally the Hawks to a 5-3 victory.

Just moments after the matchup, Kaner was asked about his grandpa in an interview, and his words were certainly very heart-felt. The interview is posted below.

Our condolences are sent out to the entire Kane family and friends for their loss.

The Bickell Rumors Roar

RUMORS RISE: The Bickell Blame Game
Bryan Bickell
source: http://thehockeywriters.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/0Y7A5074.jpg
What is the deal with Chicago Blackhawks forward Bryan Bickell? As the Hawks season continues to press on, rumors and opinions have been circulating about Bickell missing out on games, being a healthy scratch, and poor play. Will he overcome injury? Is coach Q playing mind games? or has he actually been playing well?

-Recommend you to read the articles below and give your input-
Both articles provide different view points of the Bicell incidents, and are great reads for all those interested in the situation. I think valuable evidence is provided in both.

ESPN: Chicago Blackhawks Report
http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/blackhawks/post/_/id/4680054/bickell-looking-for-mental-edge-again?ex_cid=espnapi_public

A recommended and interesting article to read, I encourage my viewers to check it out regarding the controversy of Brian Bickell. A little insight is given into the article below, but it is a great read and I encourage you to read the entire article.

According to a Chicago Blackhawks blog by ESPN, Bickell's play is stated to not be related to injury. the blog quotes Quenneville as saying "I think he’s fine, I just think having a little more confidence in what you’re able to withstand and what you’re able to do and won’t have a little bit of a hesitation. I think that’s going to come. There shouldn’t be a hindrance of an inability to do what he can do because he’s cleared to play. He’s just got to recapture it." According to the article, Bickell's struggles have been due to a lack of confidence in his game and coach Quennville believes that giving him time to think about the way he has been playing should give him an edge to get back on his horse. Will coach Q's tactic be enough to bring Bickell's drought back since winning the Stanley Cup?

With his team behind him, Bickell will soon realize that he needs to step it up and get back into the swing of things. While landing a big contract following the Stanley Cup victory in June, Bickell may have taken his role for granted. Coach Q is one of the best coaches in the league and surely knows how to get the boys fired up.

On the other hand, a Chicago Blackhawks blog from SB Nation believes that Bickell's performance has actually been strong since suffering from ongoing knee injuries during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The blog states that "While the team and fans may expect more from Bickell because he signed a contract, perhaps these expectations are a bit out of touch with reality." Are fans really overreacting to the whole Bickell situation as secondcityhockey.com suggests? The blog post goes on to illustrate several stats that may have Chicago believe Bickell is actually playing well. Several stats from the blog post have been depicted below.

  1. Over his career with the Blackhawks, Bickell has maintained, even into this season, a rather steady Points Per 60 rate.
  2. Bickell's own shooting percentage is actually up a bit this season from his last few regular seasons but when combined with his line mate's shooting percentages
  3. His possession statistics indicate fairly consistent performances despite a few off games so this might be more of an indictment of the defense and/or goaltending.
  4. Bickell's possession rates last season and this season show increases over those earlier in his career, and his individual numbers on a game by game basis this season are consistent with his teammates.
  5. After returning from injury, Bickell continued to perform as he had earlier in the season.  Games 44 and 45 of the season were completely different from any other performances we have seen from him and he quickly rectified that situation by bringing his possession time back up.

Maybe Chicago fans are once again overreacting to the case of Bryan Bickell, but as secondcityhockey.com illustrates, his play during the course of the year will be just fine. Even though he has received a bigger contract, does not immediately make him put up numbers as great as that of Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews. As the Hawks have struggled in the midst of the mid-season mark,  the Hawks community should not be out looking for players to blame. Bickell is a great hockey player that brings an abundance of skills to the deep Chicago Blackhawks roster.
